No wonder UC Davis students would rather protest

Hey, Bay-Bee!

Some UC Davis students have more of an incentive that most Occupy sympathizers to keep protesting: those paid to provide “abdominal massages” to poultry. I read this story 15 years ago and, well, it made a lasting impression. It also made me feel a little better about my paternal grandfather losing his Central Valley farm during the Depression. Here’s a snippet:

It’s one of those things, says Bradley, that gets easier the more you do it. Perhaps. But it’s also a specialized skill that requires training and practice. Handlers develop relationships with their toms, as both parties get acquainted and grow accustomed to the routine. “Turkeys definitely recognize people,” Bradley says. “And they respond better to people they’re familiar with.”

Yes, Bradley is talking about what you think she’s talking about.
